Which wrestlemania had the most matches

With Wrestlemania 36 just around the corner, it is a good time to look back at all the past Wrestlemania's, and when one thinks of past Wrestlemania's one can't help but wonder who has had the most and least success at the event. This list includes Hall of Famers and some of the best wrestlers of all time. Even on the loss side, you can't have a lot of losses if you aren't good enough to at least be on the show.

So keeping that all in mind, here are the wrestlers who dominated and were defeated at Wrestlemania. Chris Jericho has 14 Wrestlemania appearances to his name and has lost 9 of them. In Y2J's first Wrestlemania appearance was at Wrestlemania where he actually secured both his first win and first loss. He competed in a two falls triple threat match against Chris Benoit and Kurt Angle, where both Angle's European and Intercontinental Championships were on the line.

Jericho suffered his first Mania loss when he was pinned by Benoit, but quickly followed it up with his first win when he pinned Benoit. Rey Mysterio has 12 Wrestlemania matches to his name and lost his first match at Wrestlemania 19 against Matt Hardy. Mysterio's latest win was at Wrestlemania 26 against CM Punk.

Randy Savage had 11 matches at Wrestlemania, with his first match and win coming at Wrestlemania 2, against George "The Animal" Steele. His last Wrestlemania match was also a win against Crush at Wrestlemania Only the biggest star is capable of making the most WrestleMania main event appearances, fittingly Hulk Hogan, with eight. Of those eight, Hogan was either in a tag match, defending his WWE Championship, fighting for the title or just in a singles match.

Hogan sold out arenas in the 80's and 90's, so it isn't a surprise to know why he main-carded at so many WrestleManias. Another wrestler may eventually threaten Hogan's record years down the road but, until then, Hogan holds a record that characterizes the stardom he enjoyed under the spotlight in the 20th-century.

If a WrestleMania without a world title match is considered an aberration, but a WrestleMania without a world title main event is truly an anomaly.

That said, there have still been five matches that headlined a WrestleMania without the world title on the line, beginning with the first Wrestlemania, which featured a tag team match as the main event.

The Rock, without a world title contested. In order to actually main event a WrestleMania, without a world title at stake, the match must really be built up. Out of the five matches, only one was forgettable, while the rest booked were solid matches. Only a couple matched the hype of the more standard World Title main event at Wrestlemania, but each had enough buildup to headline. The 11 listed records vary in their degree of notoriety, but each is crucial in terms of forming a picture of Wrestlemanias passed.

Records for the amount of times the mid-card and women's tag-team championships have been defended have their place in the product's history and are ever-changing. Even more forgettable gimmick matches lend something to the the evolution of WrestleMania and wrestling's past in general. If you are interested in other records that put the event into its context in wrestling history, spend a few hours researching the past WrestleManias in anticipation for WrestleMania XXIX.
