What if aragorn died

He went on to rule as the high king for years more in the fourth age. Aragorn died at the age of years voluntarily. He chose his death. Aragon had a strong Numenorean character. The Numenorean royal lineage had a lifespan of five times more than the average lifespan of common human beings. This meant that Aragon may have gone on to live for years more. This meant that Aragorn was blessed with a higher average lifespan when compared with human beings.

If Sauron is defeated and Aragorn made king and all that you hope for comes true you will still have to taste the bitterness of mortality. Whether by the sword or the slow decay of time, Aragorn will die. And there will be no comfort for you, no comfort to ease the pain of his passing.

He will come to death an image of the splendor of the kings of Men in glory undimmed before the breaking of the world. But you, my daughter, you will linger on in darkness and in doubt as nightfall in winter that comes without a star. Here you will dwell bound to your grief under the fading trees until all the world is changed and the long years of your life are utterly spent. The Black Gate, by an troll's fist. The baby has known the dragon intimately ever since he had an imagination. What the fairy tale provides for him is a St. George to kill the dragon. Boromir wrests the ring from Frodo by force - maybe on the banks of the Anduin where he tried in the actual story, maybe before then - and takes it to Gondor.

He either gives it to Denethor, or more likely by that point, tries to use it himself. Either way, the result is the same: a brief and futile struggle with Sauron, at the end of which the Dark Lord reclaims his own and dominates ME for another age. After Moria, it's less crucial, because Boromir is gone and Aragorn parts ways with Frodo.

I don't know if Aragorn's role after that is so crucial that Frodo's quest is in peril without his contributions. Orual View profile View Forum Posts.

More later, work is interrupting. The upshot of most of these is: Gondor is boned. Despite what movie-Boromir says, Gondor needs its king. If he doesn't make it to Dunharrow and the Paths of the Dead, the Corsairs of Umbar make the battle of Pellenor Fields a whole different story. With no king AND no stewards Faramir dies without Aragorn's magical medical know-how, even if Pippin is there to rescue him from Denethor's pyre , the rule of Gondor will pass to The prince of Dol Amroth?

Assuming Gandalf still carts the hobbits around, Merry's going to die of creeping Nazgul-itis. Why did Aragorn not keep going with the army of the dead and overthrow Mordor and Sauron? Improve this question.

But again Minas Tirith would have been lost and Aragorn alongwith his army would never have reached Mordor in time. By the time they would have reached Mordor, Gondor would have been destroyed and the Nazgul would be back in Mordor they can fly therefore they are faster — Adeetya. The destruction of the One Ring destroyed Sauron. Yes, Sauron was a much older and stronger power than the oath breakers.

Those who are contesting Aragorn's actions aren't looking at it from the proper perspective. If Aragorn abused their trust his summons and promise of freedom given upon one word then there is little to differ Aragorn from Sauron in this respect. Likewise, thematically it makes sense for Aragorn to use the oathbreakers to save the kingdom they abandoned, thus redeeming and freeing them and righting past wrongs. MishaRosnach You do realise it was disregard for their oaths that landed the Dead Men in this position in the first place, right?

Next, we get a draft of the text, which talks about fighting the ships, but Tolkien struck out the whole page of that draft, and added a footnote: No fight, but the Shadows [? This version comes into the next draft text, after which Legolas describes what Aragorn said: Now I will hold your oath fulfilled.

However, he says this, not to the King of the Dead, but to: a tall figure of shadow. It's only in the final version that we get the following: And Aragorn spoke in a loud voice to the Dead Men, crying: "Hear now the words of the Heir of Isildur!

Depart and be at rest" And thereupon the King of the Dead stood out before the host and broke his spear and cast it down. Let's dig into this a bit more Is there an explanation of why Aragorn didn't ask them to do more? Could the army have defeated Sauron? No way! Could Aragorn have forced them? Community Bot 1.
