A perfumer sometimes mixes more than differently scented ingredients. In order to determine the correct strength of the perfume and to ensure safety on the skin, the perfume oil is mixed with a solvent. A perfumer usually uses alcohol ethanol for this, but this can also be, for example, unscented oil or wax. Alcohol is most commonly used as a solvent and is often mixed with a small amount of water.

Alcohol is the perfect means of transport for perfume substances. It makes the total product easy to spray, the alcohol evaporates quickly and leaves the fragrant components nicely spread on the skin or clothing.
